Hi folks,

I've been struck by a longing for some ripping versions of Deal. If anyone's got a favorite version (or three) from the archive, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks!

Kris

Check out the awesome version in Colorado on 7-13-81, it's a great show throughout

Good call! Really nice recording too (http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=13069), although Jerry's a bit tough to hear for the first part of his second run. Thanks!

Stumbled on another decent version via another post (the post wasn't related to Deal, but had a pointer to the show for another reason: http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=55225).

I know it's not in the archive, but seeing the JGB talk I simply have to mention the Deal from JGB's "Live." Unbelievable version of one of my top five favorite Dead songs.

Although Jerry doesn't break out a second run, one of the comment writers appears to have actually counted 43 "Don't you let that deal go down" repeats at the end of the song. ;-) I didn't count, but that seems about right...

Doesn't look like 11/4/79 is in the archive, but 8/20/83 sure is (http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=15293). Nice version, thanks for the heads-up.

i found a RIPPING Deal at nugs.net a few months back when you still had the choice of Shn or uukie-p3.
It's now in their "free stash" link as the JGB Sampler but only mp3. It's from an october 89 show, u can also buy all that was sampled at Jerry's site. Anyhow, one of the best Deals I've heard

Definitely a sweet JGB-flavored Deal. Looks like it's actually from October 1987 (Lunt-Fontanne, NYC: The Best of the Rest). Gonna have to check out some more of the Pure Jerry stuff.

Another good call and a nice source available: http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=26131. I thought Jerry's second run started out a bit mellow, but it was fun to get surprised by how it stretched and caught fire. Looks like folks thought this was a pretty good show, so I'm "rewinding" to Sugaree...

1981-03-07 - Cole Field House, U of Maryland. Long one. Best I ever saw.
Ripped the roof off the place.

Yup, nice! The "second" version in the archive (http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=13026) seemed to have a little more bottom to it. Fun to hear the crowd explode during Jerry's second run...
